How to dress to look slimmer

Dress Slimmer

If you are packing on some extra pounds or feeling a little out of shape, you can make yourself appear thinner by selecting the right clothes. Here are some tips for choosing fashions to slenderize your look.

DKNY Tunic

Skip the baggy clothes

Many people might think they can disguise extra body weight with loose-fitting clothes. In actuality, baggy clothes will make you appear to be bulkier. Choose garments that skim nicely over you body without being too tight or too baggy. Tunics are a great choice. They will flatter your figure and help elongate the look of your torso.

This tunic pictured here is a nice option because it is light-weight enough to wear all year round. The deep v-neck and scalloped hemline are flirty, feminine touches. You can get this DKNY tunic from Macy's for just $69.

Wear belts slung low

Don't cinch your waist with a belt if you have a thick or short waist. Instead wear your belt slung loose and low. Chain belts are a very fashionable option that can be worn by all body types.

Select high heels

If you have short or thick legs, don't wear flat shoes. Select chic high heels instead. They don't have to be too high - even a kitten heel of an inch or two will make your legs appear longer and leaner. Also, if you have short legs or thick ankles, don't wear shoes with ankle straps. Because they cut across your foot, ankle straps will make your legs appear stumpier.

Choose A-line skirts

Wear skirts and dresses that fall around the knee if you have thick thighs. The A-line silhouette will help hide figure flaws. Avoid skirts with dart and pleats if you are carrying extra weight in your mid section.

Accentuate the positive

If you have big hips, draw eyes upwards by wearing tops with interesting embellished necklines. Wear your hair up and add a pair of dangle earrings to draw attention to your face. Pear-shaped women should wear a fuller, feminine top and a straight skirt or pants to try to balance out their body.

Dress confidentally

Every woman can look chic no matter their size. If you feel good about yourself, you will look good too! Don't be afraid of bright colors. We all love black, but reds, pinks and other bright colors will liven up your wardrobe.

Hey Kori,

What you said about short legs and high heels is very true in my case. With my long male torso, high heels help to make my body proportions look better. It's too bad men haven't received the public acceptance to publicly wear high heels.
